As part of AIM's Radiology Program, AIM offers a Patient Safety Program to help deliver relevant and actionable information regarding the radiation exposure associated with diagnostic imaging procedures. The information is delivered directly to the ordering physician office at the time of decision-making and before the imaging exam occurs. In addition, profiling reports are delivered to health plans for further analysis of network providers over time.

The program includes a wide variety of education tools including the Ask AIMEE Patient Exposure Advisor (an interactive web tool that offers radiation exposure information for commonly ordered procedures), podcasts, links to other educational websites and educational feedback for physicians treating health plan members that have received high doses of radiation from previous imaging studies.

In 2011, AIM's Patient Safety Program impacted and educated over 16,000 members and physicians, preventing over 4,689 exams and over 9,000 millisieverts (MSV) of radiation.

Image Gently Program:

Image Gently - The ACR, as part of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging, has launched the Image Gently campaign, to raise awareness and reduce the radiation dose in the imaging of children. For more information on this campaign, as well as steps you can take to ensure your child is receiving the most appropriate care follow the link above.
